Job Description
Ordonez Cattle Farms is seeking a dedicated and hardworking Beef Cattle Farm Worker to join our livestock team in Leamington, Ontario. This is a full-time permanent position offering $17.60 per hour with comprehensive training provided for candidates new to cattle farming.
As a Beef Cattle Farm Worker, you will be responsible for the daily care and management of our beef cattle herd. Your duties will include feeding and watering cattle, monitoring animal health, maintaining barns and pens, assisting with breeding and calving activities, and operating farm machinery. You will work closely with experienced farm staff who will mentor you in proper livestock handling techniques, animal welfare standards, and farm safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities
- Feed and tend beef cattle according to established feeding schedules and nutritional programs
- Monitor water supply systems and ensure cattle have continuous access to fresh, clean water
- Sort, herd, and handle cattle safely using low-stress handling techniques
- Assist with branding, tagging, and vaccinating calves under supervision
- Monitor animal health and behaviour, identifying sick or injured cattle and reporting concerns to the farm manager
- Assist with calving operations during breeding season, including checking cows and providing basic care to newborn calves
- Clean and maintain barns, stables, pens, barnyards, and feeding areas to ensure hygienic conditions
- Bed livestock areas with straw, sawdust, or other bedding materials as directed
- Operate and maintain farm machinery including tractors, feed mixers, loaders, and manure spreaders
- Maintain and repair fences, gates, and farm infrastructure
- Assist with breeding activities including artificial insemination preparation and heat detection
- Prepare cattle for transportation to markets, auctions, or processing facilities
- Follow all bio-security, animal welfare, and food safety protocols at all times
- Complete daily care logs, feeding records, and animal health documentation
Qualifications & Skills
Required
- No formal education required — will train suitable candidates
- Physical ability to perform demanding tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for long periods, and working in various weather conditions
- Comfort working outdoors in all seasons including heat, cold, rain, and snow
- Comfort and confidence working around large animals (cattle weigh 500–1,300 lbs)
- Basic English communication skills to understand safety instructions and follow verbal directions
- Reliable transportation to the farm location in Leamington, Ontario
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada
Preferred
- Previous experience working with cattle, horses, or other large livestock
- Familiarity with farm machinery operation and basic mechanical maintenance
- Knowledge of animal husbandry, nutrition, or veterinary basics
- Experience operating tractors, ATVs, or heavy equipment
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Class G driver’s license (for operating farm vehicles on public roads)
