Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a security license to apply?

Yes. A valid provincial security guard license is mandatory before you can begin work. In Ontario, you must complete a 40-hour training course and pass the ministry exam. Other provinces have similar requirements. Hilton may consider applicants who are in the process of obtaining their license, but employment cannot commence until the license is issued.

What are the typical working hours?

Security Guards work variable shifts on a 24/7 rotation including days (7 AM–3 PM), evenings (3 PM–11 PM), and overnights (11 PM–7 AM). Weekend and holiday coverage is required. Full-time positions typically involve 40 hours per week, often structured as four 10-hour shifts or five 8-hour shifts.

Is previous hotel security experience required?

Previous hotel security experience is preferred but not required. Hilton values security experience from any setting — corporate buildings, retail, events, or residential. Strong customer service skills and a professional demeanor are equally important. Law enforcement and military backgrounds are highly regarded.

What is the Go Hilton travel program?

The Go Hilton program is one of the industry’s most generous employee travel benefits, providing significantly discounted room rates at Hilton properties worldwide for team members, their immediate family, and friends. Rates can be as low as $35 per night at select properties, making it an exceptional perk for security professionals who enjoy travel.

Can I advance from Security Guard to management?

Absolutely. Hilton has a strong promote-from-within culture. Clear pathways exist from Security Guard to Security Supervisor, Security Manager, and Director of Safety & Security. Many senior security leaders at Hilton started as frontline guards and advanced through dedication, training, and demonstrated leadership.

What physical requirements are there?

Security Guards must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, climb stairs, lift up to 50 pounds, and respond quickly to emergencies. A reasonable level of physical fitness is required. Specific fitness standards may vary by property size and operational demands.

Do I need to speak French for positions in Quebec?

For positions in Montreal and other Quebec locations, bilingual proficiency in English and French is typically required or strongly preferred due to provincial language requirements and the need to communicate effectively with local guests and emergency services.

What makes hotel security different from other security roles?

Hotel security uniquely blends protection with hospitality. Unlike corporate or industrial security, hotel guards interact constantly with guests from diverse cultures and must resolve issues with diplomacy and discretion. The goal is to ensure safety while preserving the welcoming atmosphere that defines the Hilton experience.
