Job Description
Gurdev Gill & Sons Farm LTD is seeking an experienced and motivated Farm Workers Supervisor to lead our field operations team in Abbotsford, British Columbia. This is a full-time permanent position offering $21.00 per hour with opportunities for advancement within our growing agricultural enterprise.
As a Farm Workers Supervisor, you will be responsible for coordinating, assigning, and supervising the daily work of general farm workers and harvesting labourers. You will ensure that all farm operations run efficiently, safely, and in compliance with food safety and bio-security standards. This role is ideal for individuals with hands-on agricultural experience who are ready to take on leadership responsibilities in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
The successful candidate will work closely with farm management to implement production schedules, train new employees, maintain equipment, and uphold the high standards of quality that Gurdev Gill & Sons Farm LTD is known for in the Fraser Valley agricultural community.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate, assign, and supervise the work of general farm workers, harvesting labourers, and specialized machinery operators
- Oversee daily planting, cultivating, spraying, irrigating, and harvesting operations across multiple crop fields
- Supervise and monitor crop health, identifying signs of disease, pests, or nutrient deficiencies and reporting to farm management
- Develop and implement work schedules and establish operational procedures to maximize productivity and efficiency
- Ensure all farm safety, food safety, security, and bio-security procedures are strictly followed by all team members
- Train new workers on proper techniques for crop handling, equipment operation, and safety protocols
- Supervise maintenance and repair of farm infrastructure, machinery, tools, and irrigation systems
- Maintain accurate quality control records, production logs, and daily progress reports
- Monitor inventory levels of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and equipment supplies; coordinate reordering as needed
- Enforce proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of agricultural chemicals
- Assist in the development and implementation of farm safety and bio-security procedures
- May perform general farm duties during peak periods or when staffing requires additional support
- Operate and oversee farm machinery including tractors, harvesters, sprayers, and irrigation equipment
Qualifications & Skills
Required
- Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent
- 7 months to less than 1 year of experience in farm operations, agricultural labour, or supervisory roles
- Proven ability to supervise and coordinate the work of multiple employees in an outdoor setting
- Fluent English communication skills (oral and written) for instructions, safety briefings, and record keeping
- Physical ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform demanding tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs
- Legal authorization to work in Canada (Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or valid work permit)
Preferred
- Previous experience supervising farm workers or harvesting crews in berry, vegetable, or mixed crop operations
- Knowledge of crop cultivation practices specific to the Fraser Valley region (blueberries, raspberries, corn, potatoes)
- Familiarity with farm machinery operation and basic mechanical troubleshooting
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Pesticide applicator license or willingness to obtain provincial certification
- Food safety training certification (e.g., CanadaGAP, HACCP awareness)

Abbotsford is situated in the Fraser Valley, approximately 70 kilometres east of Vancouver and 5 kilometres north of the US-Canada border at Sumas, Washington. Known as the “City in the Country,” Abbotsford is surrounded by rich agricultural land and is one of Canada’s most productive farming regions, particularly for berries, dairy, poultry, and greenhouse vegetables.
The farm operates multiple fields within the Abbotsford area, and the supervisor may be required to travel between sites within a 15-kilometre radius. The region enjoys a mild coastal climate with warm summers and wet winters, making it ideal for diverse crop production.
Work Environment: Primarily outdoor farm settings with exposure to weather, dust, and agricultural chemicals. Physical proximity to farm workers and machinery. Some administrative duties performed in on-site office facilities.
