Frequently Asked Questions
What type of vehicles will I drive?
Depending on the property, you may operate passenger vans (8–15 seats), shuttle buses (20–30 passengers), or luxury sedans for VIP transfers. Larger properties near airports typically use vans and small buses, while urban hotels may use sedans and SUVs for executive transportation.
Do I need a commercial driver’s license?
A standard Class G license (or provincial equivalent) is sufficient for most passenger van positions. However, properties operating shuttle buses with a capacity exceeding 24 passengers may require a Class F or Class B commercial license. Check the specific job posting for licensing requirements.
What are the typical working hours?
Drivers work variable shifts based on flight schedules and guest demand. Common shifts include early morning (4 AM–12 PM), day (8 AM–4 PM), evening (4 PM–12 AM), and overnight. Airport properties require 24/7 coverage. Full-time positions typically involve 35–40 hours per week.
Will I receive training on routes and hospitality standards?
Yes. All new Hilton drivers complete comprehensive onboarding including defensive driving certification, Hilton hospitality training, route familiarization, and vehicle operations. You will shadow experienced drivers before operating independently.
What is the Go Hilton travel program?
The Go Hilton program is one of the industry’s most generous employee travel benefits, providing significantly discounted room rates at Hilton properties worldwide for team members, their immediate family, and friends. Rates can be as low as $35 per night at select properties.
Can I advance from Driver to management?
Absolutely. Hilton has a strong promote-from-within culture. Clear pathways exist from Driver to Lead Driver, Transportation Supervisor, Fleet Manager, and Director of Guest Services or Operations. Many senior leaders started in transportation roles.
Do I need to speak French for positions in Quebec?
For positions in Montreal and other Quebec locations, bilingual proficiency in English and French is typically required or strongly preferred due to provincial language requirements and the need to communicate with local guests and airport personnel.
What happens if I receive a traffic violation while on duty?
Hilton requires all drivers to maintain a clean driving record. Any on-duty violations must be reported to management immediately. Off-duty violations that affect your license status must also be disclosed. Failure to report violations may result in disciplinary action.
