Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Do I need previous bartending experience to apply?
No, previous experience is preferred but not required. Montana’s provides comprehensive paid training for all new Bartenders, including mixology basics, POS system training, and customer service excellence. A passion for hospitality and willingness to learn are the most important qualifications.
What is Smart Serve certification, and do I need it before applying?
Smart Serve is Ontario’s responsible alcohol service certification. Equivalent certifications exist in other provinces (e.g., ProServe in Alberta, Serve It Right in BC). You must obtain this certification before your first shift, but you can apply without it. Montana’s often assists new hires in finding certification courses.
What are the typical working hours for a Bartender at Montana’s?
Shifts vary by location but typically include lunch (11 AM – 4 PM) and dinner (4 PM – close) shifts. Weekend and holiday availability is usually required, but Montana’s offers flexible scheduling to accommodate school, family, or other commitments. Part-time and full-time positions are available.
How much can I expect to earn in tips?
Tips vary significantly by location, shift, and season, but Bartenders at Montana’s typically earn substantial gratuities on top of their hourly wage. High-traffic locations and weekend evening shifts generally yield the highest tip earnings. Many Bartenders report earning well above the base wage when tips are included.
Are there opportunities for career advancement?
Absolutely. Recipe Unlimited is committed to promoting from within. Many Bartenders advance to shift supervisor, assistant manager, and restaurant manager roles. With 24+ brands under the Recipe Unlimited umbrella, there are endless opportunities to grow your career across different concepts and locations nationwide.
What benefits are available for part-time employees?
While comprehensive health and dental benefits are primarily offered to full-time employees, part-time staff still enjoy the employee discount dining program, Scene+ rewards, flexible scheduling, uniform allowance, paid training, and referral bonuses. Some locations also offer pro-rated benefits for part-time staff meeting minimum hour requirements.
Can I transfer to another Montana’s location?
Yes. One of the advantages of working for a large national chain like Montana’s is internal mobility. If you relocate or wish to transfer to a different location, Recipe Unlimited facilitates internal transfers based on availability and performance. This makes Montana’s an excellent choice for students or individuals planning to move.
